Department profile

To uplift the science education and motivate the rural students for Science and Technology, the authority of the college has introduced the department of Chemistry as a part of science faculty in 1982. Since then, the department offers two courses: Higher Secondary (Science) and Bachelor of Science (Honors and Regular). The UG program (both 4-year and 3-Year UG programs) offers all the major aspects in chemistry viz., Physical, Inorganic, Organic, Biochemistry and Analytical Chemistry. The B.Sc. 1st year (Semester I and semester II) course is designed as per the guidelines of the New Education Policy (NEP-2020). The present intake of UG students as chemistry honors is 30. Presently, the department has four permanent faculty members. The mission and vision of our department is to produce human resource with required knowledge and skill to meet the needs of various technical institutions and other such centre of learning, industry and commerce. The strength of the department includes qualified and dedicated teachers with specialization in different areas, sufficient laboratory space, and sufficient number of books stock for students' assistance. Furthermore, the department provides regular mentorship to students in order to foster a friendly environment and assist them in achieving their goals. Moreover, department provides free books to the needy students and financial help for admission when necessary.

The department has some weakness too. Majority of the students from rural area with poor economic background, poor attendance response from students, lake of sophisticated laboratory equipments, inadequate departmental infrastructure, lake of ICT facility for education, etc. Still, students graduated out of this department are regularly admitted to various Universities for higher education and engaged in different schools, private colleges, companies like OIL, ONGC, Pharmaceutical companies etc. Many of the departmental alumni are now holding responsible and authoritative positions in their respective areas and organizations.

The main challenges of the department are to increase the attendance response from students, pursuing of sophisticated laboratory equipments, make research based environment for the students.

The department of chemistry regularly arranges field trips, quiz competitions and conducts seminars, workshop as well as project work for the benefit of the students. In order to determine the students' requirements and enhance their performance, the department also gathers feedback from the students.
