In the year 1971, B. B. K. College, Nagaon came into being as a college. Science section for pre-university course was introduced in 1982 and subsequently undergraduate courses were introduced including mathematics in 1986. Mr. S. Pathak was the first man to join the department of mathematics and he continued his service till he got an opportunity to serve in the Govt. College, Diphu in 1986. Ms Pranita Kakoti was the second person to take the responsibility of the department for the period 1986 to 1989. In 1989, Mr. R. K. Sarma joined in this department and gave it a new life. In 1990, Mr. Mukut Saha joined the department but left the department in 1993 to serve as a District Statistical Officer under the Govt. of Assam. This vacancy was filled by Mr. N. K. Das. This science stream was taken in Govt. grant in aid system in 1996 and a third faculty post was created by the Govt. of Assam in which Mr. R. K. Sarma joined in 1997. Students opting royal combinations overwhelmed other combinations ion general courses. Now a third hand was available and the department was all set for further up gradation. Major course in mathematics was introduced in the year 1999. The up gradation necessitated a fourth hand and the then college authority, realizing the workload of the subject appointed a fourth faculty member Ms Niyati Pathak in the year 2000. Ms Niyati Pathak left the department in 2012 and joined as an inspector of school under govt. of assam and the department is running with three faculties till 2020. In 2020, Mr. Raben Kumar Sarma had retired and Dr. Manash Pratim Das joined the department in 2022. Mr. Naba Kumar Das retired on December 2023. Dr. Manash Pratim Das left the department in February 2024 and joined Gauhati University. In October 2024, Mr. Ankur Kumar Sarma joined the department. In December 2025, Dr. Monalisha Sharma joined the department.
