The Department of Zoology was established on 3rd August 1982 with a vision to uplift science education and to motivate the students for science and technology. The department has produced a large number of Science Graduates, most of them are working in different fields and some are perusing their higher studies. Moreover, few students has completed the M.B.B.S., B.V.Sc.. B.Sc.(Sericulture), B.Sc.(Agri), B.Sc. (Fishery), Pharmacist courses after passing the Higher Secondary Examinations. The teachers of this department are energetic and they perform their duties sincerely.
VISSION OF THE DEPARTMENT:
The jurisdiction of the department is included in the eastern part of the Barpeta district, and also a part of the Nalbari and Kamrup districts. The people of this area (about 80%) are living below the poverty line. So they have no scope to learn the science education (Zoology) outside due to their poor economic condition. Keeping this view in mind, the authority of the college, the founder Principal, Mr. Bimal Ch. Gogoi introduced the science stream in B.B.K. College, Nagaon on 3rd August 1982.
The department also arranges some extra-curricular activities like Extension Education Programme, short term workshop on fish & fishery; seminar talks and discussion on Environmental science; Sericulture, Drinking water , vermicomposting & Health awareness etc.
MISSION OF THE DEPARTMENT:
The mission of our department is to meet the need of various technical institutes & other such centers of teaching industries and commerce by providing human resource and required knowledge & skills; and also by promoting, disseminating & developing knowledge.
