History of the Department:
BBK College was founded on July 25, 1971. On 1979, the college is placed under the Deficit System. Among the several departments at the college, the Department of Political Science is one of the most visible. At first, only the Higher Secondary Course was offered; but, in 1971, the college's governing body decided to launch the B.A. general course in response to student demand. The B.A. Honours course was created in 1979. The GU Level semester structure was implemented in 2011.

To achieve excellence in higher education by embracing innovative teaching and learning methods and approaches
To provide information and education that is skill-based and career-oriented.
To encourage students physical, cultural, and moral growth
To work for inclusive education and prepare students, particularly for participation in higher education

Teaching Method:
In terms of teaching and learning, faculties often use the lecture method, group discussions, and other innovative teaching techniques to create awareness in students and prepare them for future higher education. The Department organises fieldwork for the development of practical knowledge and participation in institutional, social responsibility, and extension activities. The department makes efforts to encourage students to embrace new and creative ideas. All needy students are also financially supported by the department.

Student's Progression:
The Department's faculty promotes and advises students to help them proceed to higher levels of study. After graduation, students are provided information on job alternatives and the entrance procedure of several universities. The faculties also advise and counsel students on the future scope and amenities. They also have departmental meetings about dropouts and take particular strategies to reduce the number of dropouts.

Strength:
• Enrollment and pass percentage of students are rising on a daily basis
• Special classes are organized for the advantage of students
• Innovative teaching techniques are used by faculties

Weakness:
• Inadequate faculty members
• Inconsistent power supply

Opportunity:
• Employment prospects in areas such as social, political, academic, governmental, private, and research, among others
• Prospects for advanced study in the topic and participation in multidisciplinary domains are also available
• Leadership attribute that is simple to acquire

Challenge:
• The means of communication to the college is inadequate due to its remote location
• Since almost all students are economically less fortunate, it is also the faculty's challenge to give financial and other relevant assistance to students, particularly Honours students

Future Plan of the department:
• Increasing the number of books in the Departmental Library
• Inviting guest faculty
• Starting PG class
• Providing more and more e-book facilities for the benefit of the students
• The department has also taken the initiative for students to participate in seminars, group discussions, and extension activities for skill and personality development
